Lets go Nuts

I don’t want to claim that I’m a healthy person. Im far from that. But recently with some blood tests and research, I have been able to distinguish where I have been faulting my body and have found ways to better it, at least by incorporating more vitamin and nutrient rich foods into my diet.

I never understood why people would snack on nuts or dried fruit. It was torture to me and I was never really able to acquire the tastes. I would buy them, stock them up in my kitchen and they’d just go stale. I didn’t really know what to do with them and how and when to snack on them. I would rather just snack on chocolate or cookies, I have a major sweet tooth (as you can probably tell :s).

Then I decided I had to do something about it, just goes to tell you how little steps in your daily routine can make a big difference. I got some really nice glass jars from Ikea and I filled them with all sorts of  raw nuts and dried fruit. I got cashews, almonds, walnuts, gold raisins, dark raisins, dried apricots, cranberries, macadamia nuts, pistachios, and Goji berries. I kept them in the fridge sealed in the jars, and every morning I would FORCE myself to fill in a Tupperware with a mix of them all. Just as I was about to leave the house (I am usually on the go at 8 am) for some errands I would grab it with a bottle of water and run out for the day. At about 10 or 11 am, when my tummy starts growling for a snack, I would be in the car stuck with a bottle of water and a Tupperware of nuts. Ahhhh! And that’s how it happened, I was so hungry I was forced to eat my nuts. I did it for a week, same scenario, car-hunger-stranded-nuts! And voila, it happily became a routine. I learnt how to take the perfect layered bites; for example: slice of dried apricot, walnut, 3 goji berries, and 1 almond. I loved the taste and the mixture! Now my Tupperware is always waiting by the door, filled with a different mix every day; little power jewels filled with all sorts of nutritional benefits including magnesium, iron, vitamins, antioxidants, potassium, and calcium.
